Jacket Potatoes, Answered

Where can I get a jacket potato in Edinburgh?
Cafe Vera bakes them fresh at 26 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4DA, a few minutes from Bruntsfield, Marchmont and the Meadows. We are open daily 9am to 5pm and jacket potatoes are served all day, eat in or takeaway.
How much is a jacket potato at Cafe Vera?
£5.50 for a British farm potato served with butter. Standard toppings are £1.00 each and premium toppings are £1.50 each. If you want three toppings, the Loaded Deal adds all three for £3.50, which is cheaper than adding them one by one.
What toppings can I have?
Cheese, beans, sweetcorn and semi-dried tomatoes at £1.00 each, plus tuna mayo and chicken mayo at £1.50 each. You can combine as many as you like. Cheese and beans is the classic, tuna mayo and sweetcorn is the other one people come back for.
Are jacket potatoes healthy?
A baked potato is a decent base: it is naturally low in fat, high in fibre if you eat the skin, and a good source of potassium and vitamin C. What you put on it is what changes the picture. Beans or sweetcorn keep it light, while cheese and mayo-based fillings make it richer.
What goes with a jacket potato?
Beans and cheese together is the standard pairing for good reason. Tuna mayo with sweetcorn is the other combination people ask for by name. If you want it as a bigger lunch, add a Soup of the Day at £5.50 or finish with a scoop of Hackney Gelato.
Is the jacket potato vegetarian?
Yes. The potato is served with butter and is marked vegetarian on our menu, and the cheese, beans, sweetcorn and semi-dried tomato toppings keep it that way. Full details are on our allergens page, and please tell the team about any allergy before you order.
Can I get a jacket potato to take away?
Yes, every jacket potato is available to take away, boxed up hot. You can also eat in and use our free ultrafast Wi-Fi if you are working through lunch.
Why is it called a jacket potato?
The jacket is the skin. A jacket potato is baked whole in its skin rather than peeled, which is what gives you the crisp outside and the fluffy inside. In much of the world the same thing is called a baked potato.
